PROFILE: The Warren and Elaine Breslow Family Foundation was established in 2001. It was founded by Southern California real estate mogul Warren L. Breslow and his late wife Elaine, a civic leader. Warren Breslow rose through the ranks of Goldrich & Kest Industries, eventually becoming CEO. Goldrich Kest is a privately-owned diversified real estate company focused on the management, redevelopment and acquisition of multifamily residential properties.  The foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest the Warren and Elaine Breslow Family Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to Jewish causes and human services organizations. It also supports health, arts, educational, and youth organizations.

Elaine looms large in the family's giving. The family have long been involved with Beit T'Shuvah, which began in 1987 as a transitional home for Jewish inmates. Beit T’Shuvah is now primarily an addiction residential treatment center with 125 residents in primary care and 50 residents in extended care. The organization is home to the Elaine Breslow Institute for Addiction, Prevention and Family Education, which Elaine helped spearhead. Addiction has touched the family personally and in the early 1990s Elaine  “came out” as the parent of an addict and chaired the first conference on addiction in the Jewish community called, "The Not-So-Secret Secret of Addiction in the Jewish Community.” The Breslow family continues to support Beit T'Shuvah.

Grants range from $750 to $66,100. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation made grants totaling a little under $360,000. Past grantees include Heschel Day School, Los Angeles Jewish Home, Covenant House California, Venice Family Clinic, LACMA, and Otis College of Arts & Design, where Warren's current wife, interior designer Gail Buchalter sits on the board of trustees.

The Warren and Elaine Breslow Family Foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
