PROFILE: The Barry and Wendy Meyer Charitable Foundation was established in 1999. Its was founded by former Warner Brothers Entertainment CEO and Chairman Barry Meyer and his wife Wendy, a clinical social worker.  The foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest the Barry and Wendy Meyer Charitable Foundation funds grantmaking related to education, children's and civil rights, health, human services, humanitarian, and Jewish causes.

A licensed clinical social worker, Wendy Meyer has worked at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work for more than two decades. The couple established the Meyer Endowed Scholarship in 2001, awarding grants to students who were committed to careers in the field of child welfare. In 2008, they created the Frances Caple Book Fund to help students pay for books. In 2012, they established two scholarships for former foster youth. The school is also home to the Wendy Smith Endowed Staff Recognition Fund, which Wendy announced in conjunction with her impending retirement. Wendy is also a founding board member of the National Foster Youth Institute and was a board member of United Friends of the Children for close to two decades. She served on the board of Venice Family Clinic, and on the board of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition. She is a volunteer advocate with Human Rights Watch, working on juvenile justice. 

Grants range from $100 to around $1 million. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation made grants of approximately $2.1 million. Past grantees include ACLU Foundation of Southern California, Feminist Majority Foundation, United Friends of the Children, LACMA, International Documentary Association, Department of Children and Family Services - LA County, Westside Neighborhood School, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Venice Family Clinic, and Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles.

The foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
