Stephen Silk is a Managing Director of Eastdil Secured, a real estate investment banking firm. The foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest the Silk Family Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to education, youth, and health. It also supports human services and religious organizations.

The family steadily supports USC, their alma mater, including its Keck School of Medicine and athletics. The couples two kids are also Trojans. Silk is a board member of the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate.

Grants range from $1,000 to $110,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $706,000. Past grantees include  South Pasadena San Marino YMCA (Silk is on the board of YMCA Metropolitan District), San Marino School Foundation, Union Rescue Mission,  Cancer Support Community (Susan is a breast cancer survivor), Huntington Hospital, and San Marino Community Church.

The Silk Family Foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
