OVERVIEW: SAS supports STEM education and third-grade literacy around the world, prioritizing areas surrounding its corporate offices in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to supporting educational programs and nonprofit organizations, SAS makes much of its educational technology available to educators at no cost.

In addition to supporting education through its philanthropic enterprise, the company makes much of its educational technology freely available for educators. However, given its size and bureaucracy, it is slower to respond to requests.

PROFILE: Based in Cary, North Carolina, SAS (Statistical Analysis System) was established in 1966 with a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a cooperative effort of six universities to develop means of analyzing large sets of public data. The organization became a private corporation in 1976 and has satellite offices across the U.S. and in more than 70 nations around the world. Its philanthropic endeavors aim to "develop the next generation of innovators" by supporting STEM education and elementary reading programs.  

Grants for K-12 Education and STEM Education

SAS supports K-12 education through monetary donations to nonprofit organizations, signature education programs and by making its technology freely available to educators around the world. Recipients of SAS funding include Communities in Schools, a national organization offering support to at-risk students and promoting high school completion, and Computer Science Education Week, a national event that encourages students to take an interest in computer science and coding. SAS has partnered with North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences to run the STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities, and has made products and services freely available to all educators via its signature SAS Curriculum Pathways and SAS Programming for High School programs. 

Important Grant Details:

SAS prioritizes programs serving North Carolina and areas near SAS headquarters in the U.S. and abroad. Proposals are reviewed in the order they are received in February, May, August and November of each year. Guidelines for application are available on the SAS website.
