PROFILE: Established in 2013, the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Family Foundation is a family funder in New England. It was established by real estate mogul Stephen Weiner and his wife Roberta. Stephen Weiner cofounded S. R. Weiner & Associates with his son Adam. The company owns or manages millions of square feet of property, including malls, hotels, lifestyle centers, and luxury condominiums in Boston and New England. Stephen and Roberta Weiner are major patrons of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, home to the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Department of Surgery. Weiner is an overseer emeritus of the institution. The family also strongly supports Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where the Weiners recently directed a seven-figure gift via their foundation. Adam Weiner co-chairs the board of overseers. The hospital is also home to the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation.
Grants range from $25,000 to around $1 million. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $2 million. Grantees have included Boston Scholar Athletes (Adam is on the board); Boys & Girls Club of Boston; Camp Harbor View Foundation, where the Weiners' daughter Melissa Janfaza sits on the board; and Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
