Robert and Sara Savage

NET WORTH: Unknown

SOURCE OF WEALTH: KTR Capital Partners, EWI Investors, Hudson Bay Partners

FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, Health, Environment

OVERVIEW: The Savages move philanthropy through the Sara & Robert Savage Charitable Foundation, which available tax filings reveal, gave away around $1.9 million in 2018. The couple focuses on education, health, and the environment via their foundation.

BACKGROUND: Robert F. Savage Jr. graduated with an A.B. in urban studies and business economics from Brown University. He started his career at Arthur Andersen LLP, in the real estate advisory and workout practice and then worked at Jones Lang LaSalle in a variety of investment management and project finance positions. He worked in the Investment Banking Division at Merrill Lynch & Co., and was a partner of Hudson Bay Partners. Savage was co-founder of the KTR Capital Partners and is co-owner of EWI Investors.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couple supports their mutual alma mater Brown University. They’ve also supported Columbia Law School, where Sara is an alum. Sara has served on the board of directors of ASAP!, a nonprofit children’s arts program, another grantee. Other grantees have included Taft School Annual Fund (the couple are Taft parents), Noble and Greenough School, Spence School, Child Mind Institute, New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, and Play Rugby USA.

HEALTH: Savage is a member of the board of trustees of Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, which the family supports. Sara is on the board of Access Challenge, which works for universal health access and education. Funds have gone to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and Women’s Health Initiative.

ENVIRONMENT: Grantees have included Roxbury Land Trust, National Parks Conservation Association, Weantinoge Heritage Land Fund, and Steep Rock Association, Inc., a land trust, protecting land in Washington, Connecticut, and surrounding communities.

OTHER: The family has supported Municipal Arts Society of NY, UJA Federation, Speak Up Africa, and VolunteerMatch.

LOOKING FORWARD: Savage is still much very engaged in business but expect the family to stick with their established interests for now. Perhaps global work through the foundation will ramp up—the couple’s kids have volunteered in Africa. Another interest could be justice and advocacy. Though now an interior designer, Sara was once a practicing lawyer.
