PROFILE: The Richard C. And Melanie Lundquist Family Foundation was established in 2000. Its was founded by real estate couple Richard Lundquist and his wife Melanie. Richard is president of Continental Development Corporation, a commercial real estate and management company based in El Segundo. Tax filings suggest the Richard C. And Melanie Lundquist Family Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to education, human services, and animal organizations of late.

The couple are products of LAUSD, completing their K-12 education in the Los Angeles area public school system. Last decade, the Lundquists joined forces with then Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to create the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools and became the organization’s primary funder with an initial gift of $50 million. The couple recently committed an additional $35 million to the organization, whose aim is to to transform Los Angeles' lowest-performing schools. Meanwhile, Melanie Lundquist began volunteering at the Torrance Memorial Medical Center in 1985 and where the couple have been patients as well as major donors. In 2006, the couple gave $13 million to establish the Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute and expand the medical center’s emergency department. More recently, the Lundquists gave a $50 million donation in 2013 toward a new patient tower, and a $32 million grant in 2017.

Grants are small and range from $150 to $250. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $650. The year prior, the foundation gave away around $18,000. Annual grantmaking has historically been within the low five-figure range, suggesting that Lundquists prioritize other avenues of giving. Past grantees include El Camino College Foundation, Gas Assistance Fund United Way, Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, and Pet Orphans.
