OVERVIEW: Ranvir Trehan does his grantmaking through the Trehan Foundation, which prioritizes international development and Indian causes. Other interests include education and the arts. 

BACKGROUND: Born in India, Ranvir Trehan holds a BSEE from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, a Masters in Operations Research from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Dayton. He founded SETA Corporation, a Virginia-based IT services company supporting the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and other federal government agencies. 

ISSUES: 

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Trehan supports his alma mater, the University of Michigan. Other grantees include Washington Tennis and Education Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.  

POLICY & GLOBAL: Trehan sits on the board of CARE, which “works around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice.” He also supports CARE, the Brookings Institution and others.

INDIAN CAUSES: Grantees include American India Foundation, the Global India Fund, Washington’s D.C.’s Iskcon Krishna Temple and Ekal Vidyalaya, a “movement involved in integrated and holistic development of rural and tribal India.” 

ARTS & CULTURE: Trehan has supported arts and cultural organizations in the Mid-Atlantic area including the Wolf Trap Foundation and the Kennedy Center. 

LOOKING FORWARD:  The Trehan Foundation’s giving has fluctuated between about $400,000 and $80,000 over the past several years. Expect Trehan to stick with his current areas of interest.
