Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund

OVERVIEW: The Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund supports HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, and advocacy in the state of Oklahoma.

FUNDING AREAS: HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, and advocacy

IP TAKE: For community grants, pitch an idea for direct service programs that aligns with the National HIV/AIDS strategy.

PROFILE: Established in 1991, the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund (OACF) is the fundraising and advocacy organization of Barbara and Jackie Cooper. The Coopers’ son died of AIDS, leading them to support others with HIV/AIDS. OACF is committed to “providing financial support and resources to HIV/AIDS service providers in the state of Oklahoma.” The foundation restricts grantmaking to HIV and AIDS.

OACF’s HIV/AIDS giving extends to education, prevention, treatment, and advocacy efforts throughout the state. Its grant program provides funding to HIV/AIDS service agencies in Oklahoma. These providers include H.O.P.E. Health Outreach Prevention and Education, Heartline, county health department walk-in clinics, community centers, blood institutes, and support programs. It awards grants with support from its Red Tie Night gala to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS in Oklahoma. Funding is centered on reducing new infections, stigmas and health disparities, as well as increasing access to services.

Fund grants tend to be between $5,000 and $10,000. In a recent grant cycle, the funder awarded $120,000 in total grants to be split among 13 organizations. Past grants have gone to the Latino Community Development Agency, Be the Change, and Expressions Community Center. Grantmaking is restricted to groups that serve residents of Oklahoma. The fund does not provide grant seeker guidelines or application forms on its website.

OACF is connected with HIV/AIDS service providers in the region and does not appear to accept unsolicited grant requests. In addition to grants, the fund is also involved with advocacy efforts and hosts advocacy events.
