PROFILE: Established in 1997, the Muriel and Bert Brodsky Family Foundation bears the name of Port Washington, New York businessman Bert Brodsky and his wife Muriel. The foundation’s current board members are Brodsky family members. The Muriel and Bert Brodsky Family Foundation’s grantmaking supports Jewish causes, health, human services, and education.

In the 1980s, Bert Brodsky founded National Medical Health Card Systems, Inc. (NMHC), a pharmacy benefit management services company now known as NMHCRX. He’s also been involved with such organizations as Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

In a recent fiscal year, grants ranged from as low as $25 to $261,000 awarded to City College Fund. Per a recent 990, the foundation is open to contact and requires a resume detailing mission and budget.  Grantees have included UJA Federation of New York, Community Synagogue, The Sean Kinering Testicular Cancer Foundation, Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation, Phoenix House, City College Fund (Brodsky is a City College alumnus), and New York City Police Foundation, and Emory University. One of the Brodskys’ sons, Lee, attended Emory.

The foundation’s tax returns do not indicate any submission deadlines or limitations or restrictions on awards.
