OVERVIEW: Muhammad Raghib Hussain does his grantmaking through the Raghib Family Foundation. Hussain mainly supports K-12 education and youth development in California. He has also given to Pakistani community organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

BACKGROUND:  Muhammad Raghib Hussain graduated with a B.S. in computer systems engineering from NED University in Pakistan, and an M.S. in computer engineering from San Jose State University. Hussain worked at VPNet, an enterprise security company, and held various engineering roles at Cisco Systems and Cadence Design Systems. He is co-founder and COO of Cavium, a fabless semiconductor company.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION: Hussain, via his foundation, supports a number of California-based organizations that aim to support educational opportunity and youth development in California. Past grantees include the East Palo Alto Kids Foundation, Developments in Literacy, a Black Education Network and the Greene Scholars Program.

GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT AND HEALTH: Hussain’’s global giving has prioritized Pakistani and other Muslim communities around the globe. Recent grantees include Pakistan’s Indus Hospital, the Hidaya Foundation, the Koshish Foundation and Islamic Networks, Inc.

LOOKING FORWARD: Hussain’s giving has remained steady at about $250,000 a year for the past few years. Expect him to stick with his areas of current interest.
