OVERVIEW:  The Lostand Foundation supports a variety of organizations involved in social action, land conservation, and sustainable development.

PROFILE: Established in 1997, the Lostand Foundation was founded by real estate investor Jonathan F.P. Rose and his wife Diana. Jonathan is a son of Frederick P. Rose, who chaired the family real estate company Rose Associates. In 1989, Rose founded Jonathan Rose Companies LLC, a multi-disciplinary real estate development, planning, consulting and investment firm. While the foundation does not maintain a website, it does have a web presence revealing priority areas. The Lostand Foundation broadly supports a variety of organizations involved in social action, land conservation, and sustainable development.

The couple are co-founders of the Garrison Institute in New York, which “connects inner transformation with outer solutions to relieve suffering in the fields of trauma, education and the environment.” The Lostand Foundation has also directed millions to Garrison Institute.

Grants range from $1,000 to around $1.1 million. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away approximately $1.7 million. Past grantees include Hudson Highlands Land Trust, NRDC, Open Space Institute, Friends of High Line, Land Trust Alliance, Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson, Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, Nature Conservancy, and Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary.
