PROFILE: In 1997, the LIVESTRONG Foundation was established by Lance Armstrong as the Lance Armstrong Foundation, after the cyclist was diagnosed with testicular cancer. It seeks to “improve the lives of people affected by cancer, now.” The foundation raised over $100 million from its iconic yellow wristbands, and has evolved from prioritizing testicular cancer research to addressing the needs of survivors of all cancers. In 2012, Armstrong stepped down, and the foundation changed its name to the LIVESTRONG Foundation. It makes grants to support cancer research, treatment and care.

In 2019, it established the LIVESTRONG Solution Grants to support organizations “who are developing cutting edge, inventive, and sustainable solutions to overlooked cancer problems.” Funding priorities include underserved people, communities of color, “defeating digital discord” and improving access to care.

LIVESTRONG grants generally range from $5,000-$20,000, and the foundation makes over $2 million a year in grants. Recent grantmaking appears to have focused on patient services and supports provided by small to medium-sized community organizations. For additional information about past grants, see the foundation’s recent tax filings.
