BACKGROUND: John "Jack" F. Grundhofer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Loyola Marymount University, and an MBA degree in finance from the University of Southern California. He began his career in 1960 as a credit analyst and trainee at Union Bank in Los Angeles. In 1978, he joined San Francisco-based Wells Fargo Bank as executive vice president of the Southern California Retail Banking Group. Grundhofer is chairman emeritus of U.S. Bancorp, the parent company of U.S. Bank.

ARTS AND CULTURE: John and Patricia Grundhofer are co-chairs of Palm Springs' Living Desert Zoo and Gardens capital campaign, and gave a $3 million gift to the institution. Grundhofer is vice chair of the board of Palm Springs International Film Society. The couple support the film festival.
