PROFILE: Founded in 1997, the Jack & Anita Saltz Foundation was established by investor Jack Saltz and his late wife Anita. Unfortunately, the foundation chooses to a low public profile, which does not maintain a web presence and prohibits further information. According to tax filings, however, the foundation's grantmaking includes support of medical organizations and Jewish causes.
Jack Saltz keeps a low profile. He's a brother-in-law of Robert Belfer and has had big holdings in real estate. He also invested in Enron. At times, philanthropy has tracked with the more public Belfer family. Saltz and Anita strongly supported Weill Cornell Medical College and the family continues their support. Saltz and Anita also endowed chairs in diabetes research at Yeshiva and Mt. Sinai, and the Diabetes Research Center at Yeshiva. The family helped establish an interdisciplinary study in diabetes Rockefeller University.
Grants ranged from $250 to $66,400. In a recent tax year, the foundation gave away around $667,000. Past grantees have included NYU Langone, New York Stem Cell Foundation, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, UJA Federation of New York, The Met, and Nightingale Bamford School.
