OVERVIEW: The J. Philip DiNapoli Foundation supports education, the arts, human services and religious organizations.

PROFILE:  Established in 1984, the J. Philip and Jennifer DiNapoli Foundation is a private foundation that is focused on the Bay Area of California. Its founders are the financier and real estate mogul J. Philip DiNapoli and his wife, Jennifer. DiNapoli was the founding chairman of Plaza Bank of Commerce, a successful regional bank which merged in 2001 with Comerica Bank of Detroit. He is a director of JP DiNapoli Companies, a real estate investment, development and property management organization. The foundation does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest that the J. Philip and Jennifer DiNapoli Foundation funds grantmaking related to education, the arts, human services and religious organizations.

DiNapoli supports his alma mater, Stanford University. Much of the foundation’s other education giving focuses on Bay Area institutions, with an apparent preference for Catholic and parochial institutions.

Grants range from $1,000 to $50,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $240,000. Grantees have Sacred Heart Nativity School, Presentation High School, Bellarmine College Preparatory,  Montalvo Arts Center (where DiNapoli's nephew's wife, Gretchen, is a trustee),  San Joe Museum of Art, and Saint Mary's Church.
