Ira W. DeCamp Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Ira W. DeCamp Foundation supports community-based health care, foster care, and workforce development in New York City.

FUNDING AREAS: Community-based health care, foster care, workforce development

IP TAKE: This foundation has become increasingly interested in funding collaboratives with other local foundations that serve New York City.

PROFILE: Established in 1970, the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation is the foundation of Elizabeth DeCamp McInery, who named it after her late husband. The foundation is based on New York City and focuses its grantmaking here. Over the years, the foundation has largely supported health, education, and social service nonprofits. Current grantmaking interests are community-based health care, foster care, and workforce development.

Community-based health care grants fund community health centers and primary care providers in the region. These grants go towards capacity-building, organizational improvement activities, and capital projects. Foster care grants support programs that link relevant service providers, train and recruit caseworkers and staff, and that also train and recruit foster parents and kinship caregivers. Other foster care grants go towards policy and advocacy efforts, LGBT youth in the foster care system, and services for transition age youth. Finally, workforce development grants fund workforce development grants in the New York City metropolitan area and come in the form of capacity building, program development, and research and evaluation grants.

Foundation grants tend to range from $50,000 to $200,000. Nonprofits can view past grantees and award amounts on the Contributions page of the funder’s website. Grantmaking is generally restricted to the New York City metropolitan area. DeCamp does not provide funding for private foundations, matching gifts, loans, or individuals.

The foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications online. The annual submission deadline for all program areas is July 15. The funder makes grant decisions in October and sends out notifications in early-November. JPMorgan Chase Bank is the sole trustee for this foundation, so the most appropriate person to contact depends on the program a nonprofit is interested in.
