Global Health Education through Training and Services: Grants for Women and Girls

Global Health Education through Training and Services

OVERVIEW: Global Health Education, Training and Services seeks community-based women’s empowerment and health organizations.

IP TAKE: GHETS places a heavy emphasis on long-term, sustainable strategies rather than short-term gains. Information is sparse here and the staff harder to get a hold of, but the organization fills an important niche. Unfortunately, the foundation is inaccessible and does not provide a clear way to apply for a grant, but reach out to learn about how the foundation is funding at this time.

PROFILE: After spending decades recruiting U.S. based healthcare professionals to train healthcare workers in Latin America, Dr. David Egilman established the Global Health Education, Training and Services or GHETS in 2002. GHETS has been committed to supporting programs that help propel “[s]ystematic change in health around the world,” focusing on women’s, community health, occupational and environmental health and training and capacity building.

GHETS’s women’s and community health grantmaking focuses on supporting “[t]raining programs and community-based outreach initiatives that address a variety of health issues including sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health and gender-based violence issues.”

According to recent tax filings, grant amounts typically range from $1,000 to $10,000. Past grant funding has supported eproductive health projects in Uganda and a women’s health care services in Pakistan. To learn more about the types of organizations GHETS supports, explore its grantmaking page.

GHETS accepts unsolicited grant applications and requests for funding on a rolling basis throughout the year.
