Hollyfield Foundation

Hollyfield Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Houston-based Hollyfield Foundation supports LGBTQ organizations in Texas.

IP TAKE: Working exclusively in Texas, the Hollyfield Foundation supports LGBTQ causes and organizations in the areas of health and rights. Grants are awarded in amounts of up to $16,000, and the foundation accepts letters of intent until March 31 of each year.

PROFILE: The Hollyfield Foundation was established in 1994 at the request of Jay Hollyfield, who died of AIDS-related complications in the same year. During his lifetime, Hollyfield was a champion and advocate of gay and lesbian causes. The foundation supports organizations that work to “[p]revent discrimination, educate and secure equal rights for sexual minorities, and assist in healthcare issues for the community, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS education, care and treatment.”

Hollyfield’s grantmaking prioritizes projects that address discrimination and rights for sexual minorities, promote tolerance of sexual minorities, eradicate discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS, support services for people affected by HIV/AIDS, offer services regarding other health issues affecting the sexual minority community, and arts that impact the LGBTQ community. Past LGBTQ grantees include the Lesbian Health Initiative, the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute and the Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit.

In a recent year, this funder made approximately $40,000 in grants. Grants are modest in size, ranging from $1,000 to $16,000. The foundation’s average grant size is about $5,000. For additional information about past grantmaking, see the foundation’s recent tax filings.

The Hollyfield Foundation accepts unsolicited requests for funding beginning with a letter of intent, which is due on March 31. Selected applicants will be asked to complete an on-line application form. General inquiries may be submitted to the foundation’s staff via email at any time.
