Filmmaker Fund

OVERVIEW: The Filmmaker Fund supports documentaries and provides filmmakers assistance with distribution strategies and film festivals.

IP TAKE: This funder does not disclose how filmmakers can apply to its grant program. Grant seekers are advised to contact the fund and introduce themselves. It does not currently accept proposals; however, grant seekers should check the site often for announcements and changes.

PROFILE: Founded by David Eckles and Minette Nelson, the Filmmaker Fund is “committed to both proven and emerging filmmakers.” It offers help from the early production stages to distribution and seeks to “alleviate artistic encumbrances” by offering grants of up to $75,000, access to low-cost digital cinema packages (DCP), an invitation to the fund’s annual retreat, help navigating various film festivals, and assistance in developing distribution strategies. In addition, national and international filmmakers are eligible to apply for a grant.

The fund appears to accept unsolicited grant applications; however, it is not accepting submissions at this time. Interested filmmakers should check the fund’s website regularly for changes in this policy. To clarify, this funder only supports documentary films, not works of fiction.
