PROFILE: Established in 1956, the Community Foundation of the Verdugos (CFV) is a community foundation based in Glendale, California. A group of women from the Glendale Tuesday Afternoon Club came together to create this foundation, which was originally called the Glendale Community Foundation. The foundation aims to "provide philanthropic leadership for your charitable desires and financial resources to support issues in the community that matter to you.” CFV funds local efforts for children and youth, human services, health, education, arts and culture, animal welfare and community development.

The Community Foundation of the Verdugos supports a wide variety of local causes with its annual giving cycles. Funding commonly goes to arts organizations, community centers, YMCAs, museums and groups that serve local animals. Grant requests are limited to a single project, program or capital need. CFV allows nonprofits to apply for grants one time per 12-month period and has a 24-month waiting period after being selected for funding. In addition to grants, CFV also awards scholarships to local students.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $20,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving on the recently awarded grants page of the foundation website. Grantmaking focuses on the Verdugo area of Southern California. Past local grantees include Boys & Girls Club of Burbank & Greater East Valley, Kids Community Dental Clinic of Burbank and the YMCA of Glendale.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits. CFV makes its grant application available on its website and requests that nonprofits email it to the foundation staff with attachments by the deadline date. In the past, the application deadline has been June 1. Direct general questions to the staff at info@cfverdugos.org or 818-241-8040.
