PROFILE: The Community Foundation of Collier County (CFCC) is based in Naples, Florida, and serves the local community. It was incorporated in 1985, oversees over 510 funds, and manages around $174 million in assets.
CFCC makes some grants through its Community Needs Fund, which is supported by families and individuals who trust CFCC to respond to the most current needs in the county. In a recent grantmaking year, the foundation board recommended distribution of over $700,000 in Community Needs Funds. In 2017, CFCC began using a Grants Performance and Outcomes Committee to evaluate grants made by the foundation and make recommendations for future grantmaking.
This is a big funder of capacity-building efforts. Around six capacity-building grants of $2,000 are made per grant cycle. The Network for Good Foundation matches these grants with $1,000 and applicants are required to match the rest at specified amounts. In a recent year, the foundation raised over $3.9 million with 2,303 donations in 24 hours as part of its Give Where You Live program. A total of 38 local nonprofits were supported with this effort. To apply for a CFCC grant, local nonprofits must be listed in the funder’s online nonprofit directory.
The foundation also sets up agency endowment funds for nonprofits. The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, established in 1997, has moved to Hodges University and has provided training for at least 7,000 participants from local nonprofits.
