PROFILE: The Charatan/Holm Family Foundation was founded in 2000 by real estate mogul Debrah Lee Charatan and longtime real estate lawyer Steve Holm. Debrah is the founder and president of BCB Property Management Inc., a full-service, multifamily and mixed-use real estate firm whose portfolio includes more than 120 buildings and 1,800 apartments. The Charatan/Holm Family Foundation aims to aid and grow charities that make a difference in the New York City community. Grantmaking focuses on the arts, Jewish causes, care for the elderly, disabled and youth, and medical care.

Debrah is involved with the Women’s Leadership Council of the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund and serves on the Real Estate Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She also serves as as the vice chair of the board of trustees of Selfhelp Community Services Foundation, an independent living-focused organization for seniors. The family supports the institution. Steve Holm is a founding member of the Hampton Synagogue and is also involved with other Jewish institutions, including the Park East Synagogue, the Chabad of Southampton, and the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation.

Grants range from $100 to $100,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away $297,935. Past grantees include The Met, MoMA, Chabad of Southampton, UJA Federation of New York, Hebrew Academy for Special Children, Covenant House, Kidney & Urology Foundation, and Caron Foundation.
