California Partnership to End Domestic Violence

OVERVIEW: The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence supports violence prevention and domestic violence intervention in California.

IP TAKE: Although this is not a traditional grantmaker, it is a good organization to know in both Northern California and Southern California for capacity building assistance and grants for emergency needs.

PROFILE: Established in 2005, the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) is California’s recognized domestic violence coalition and based in Sacramento, California. CPEDV formed upon the merger of the California Alliance Against Domestic Violence and the Statewide California Coalition for Battered Women. With diverse membership across the entire state, CPEDV represents over 1,000 advocates, organizations and allied groups. The organization "promotes the collective voice of a diverse coalition of organizations and individuals, working to eliminate all forms of domestic violence.” It funds local efforts for violence prevention and domestic violence intervention.

The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence engages in public policy, communications and capacity-building efforts centered on prevention, intervention and social change. CPEDV has a capacity-building program that helps organizations and individuals working on domestic violence issues in the state. It does this through a series of events, trainings and webinars. Although this is not a traditional foundation grantmaker, CPEDV awards grants for emergency response needs during urgent times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. For this particular effort, CPEDV worked with the Office of Emergency Services to distribute funds to support direct victim services, technology needs, emergency housing, emergency food, utility assistance, video conferencing memberships, hazard pay, administrative time off, and other needs to serve victims remotely during the pandemic.
