OVERVIEW: Byron Allen does not appear to have a foundation, but he has been involved with select organizations particularly in the Southern California area.

BACKGROUND: Byron Allen was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1961 but grew up in Los Angeles. He began as comedian, working in Los Angeles clubs in his early teens. A few years later he became a host of NBA show Real People. In 1993, he founded Entertainment Studios, which owns media site Grio and recently purchased The Weather Channel for $300 million, and Fox Sports Networks.

ISSUES:

LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY: Byron Allen has been steadily involved with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which he’s supported through donations. He also runs a fundraiser through his company which raises funds for the hospital.

LOOKING FORWARD: In his 50s, Allen is still engaged in business, but perhaps will ramp up his philanthropy in the coming years.
