Bureau of Creative Works

Bureau of Creative Works

OVERVIEW: The Bureau of Creative Works is a small collective of filmmakers who seek to bridge the gap between short films and engaged audiences.

IP TAKE: This funder is a great resource for makers of short films who can stretch a small budget.

PROFILE: The Bureau of Creative Works is a film collective that works to bridge the gap between filmmakers and engaged audiences and seeks to support and premier “the best independent filmmakers working in short film.” The bureau supports independent creators of short films through its Short Film Grant program.

Grant seekers should note that awards here are small. Selected filmmakers receive a one-time grant of between $1,500 and $3,000. Of the small sums, the bureau says it is “not a finishing fund—this is meant to be a fun, quick, exciting endeavor...” To be eligible for a grant, applicants must have past storytelling work, be over 18, and have short films not yet in production. International filmmakers are encouraged to apply but should be aware that all final projects must be subtitled in English and “suitable for an American audience.” Student films are not eligible for submission.

The Bureau of Creative Works announces open calls for submissions throughout the year. Selected filmmakers should expect to be contacted by the bureau four to six weeks after the official submission window closes.
