BACKGROUND: Bob Muglia graduated from University of Michigan with a B.S. in computer and communication science in 1981. He joined Microsoft in 1990, eventually serving as Senior Vice President; Server & Business Tools. He worked at Juniper Networks and is currently CEO of Snowflake Computing in San Mateo, which works in data warehousing, cloud, and analytics.

ISSUES:

GLOBAL HEALTH & SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Laura is on the board of Episcopal Relief & Development, and was co-chair of the NetsforLife Inspiration Fund and successfully co-led a three-year campaign across The Episcopal Church to raise $5 million for malaria prevention. She also led the Diocese of Olympia’s One-for-One Malaria Net Challenge, raising $350,000 in the first diocesan grass-roots campaign for NetsforLife. The Muglias gave a $1 million gift to Episcopal Relief & Development, launching the Women's Development Fund to support programs working with women globally to fight disease, hunger, and poverty.

Laura is also on the board of advisors of Duke’s Global Health Institute. The family support the Paul Farmer Endowment Fund at the institute, which funds “undergraduate fieldwork and research projects at Duke that exemplify Farmer’s commitment to serving the world’s poorest populations.” Other grantees have included Bighorn Golf Club Charities, which deals with breast cancer; and Family Health Ministries, which “supports Haitian communities in their efforts to build and sustain healthy families by developing best health care practices to share across Haiti and other low-resource communities.”

OTHER: The Muglias have also supported places like Seattle University, Washington Policy Center, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral.

LOOKING FORWARD: The civically active Laura should be watched as the family continue to dig into global health and development issues.
