PROFILE: The Arab Human Rights Fund began as a group of human rights activists and organizations in the Arab region working together to advocate and defend human rights. The Preparatory Committee was comprised of Azzam, Atallah Kuttab, Amin Mekki Meddani, and Mona Younis, and coordinated by Yousry Moustafa, began working in 2002 and by 2008, the group launched the Arab Human Rights Fund (AHRF). AHRF describes itself as a “[n]ot for profit philanthropic organization that provides support for the promotion and realization of all human rights in the Arab region.” The fund defines the “Arab region” as member states of the Arab League.
The fund makes grants of up to $60,000 per grant per year. This funder also offers multiyear grants for up to three years. Past AHRF grantees include Yemini NGOs Coalition for Child Care, the Arab Organization for Human Rights, and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights.
