PROFILE: The Andrew and Ann Tisch Foundation was established in 1992. It was founded by businessman Andrew Tisch and his wife Ann, a reporter turned education advocate. Andrew Tisch is co-chairman of the board and chairman of the Executive Committee of Loews Corporation, which was co-founded by his father Larry Tisch. The foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, which restricts further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest that the Andrew and Ann Tisch Foundation primarily fund education, youth, and Jewish causes. It also earmarks fund for the arts, health, policy, environmental, and community causes.

Once a reporter, Ann pivoted into the realm of education and first established the Young Women's Leadership School, a public middle school for girls in East Harlem. She went on to launch Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN), an organization that operates The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYWLS), a network of all-girls public schools, and CollegeBound Initiative (CBI), a co-ed college access program. The couple continues to support YWLN and TYWLS via their foundation. 

Grants range from $1,000 to around $6.1 million. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $7.7 million. Past grantees have included Teach for All, Cornell University (Tisch was once vice chair), 92Y, NY Historical Society (Tisch is vice chair), American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (Tisch is a trustee), New York Policy Foundation (Tisch is on the board), Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, Wildlife Conservation Society (Tisch is on the board), and Jewish Communal Fund, the recent recipient of some $6.1 million recently. 

The Andrew and Ann Tisch Foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
